Summer Sizzles, Preservation Prevails
We hope this message finds you well as we enter the summer season. We are delighted to provide you with some updates and upcoming events that reflect our commitment to preserving the historical heritage of Indian Wells.
Name Change
Earlier this year the Board decided to change the Foundation’s name to Indian Wells Preservation Foundation. Why? It’s shorter and promotes eye-catching design for an updated logo. This allows us to streamline our identity for more visual impact.
Despite the name change, our mission remains steadfast in historical documentation and preservation, a legacy of the Foundation since its inception in 2002. We believe this updated look will aid us in better engaging with the changing community and garnering increased attention toward this crucial mission.
Historic Landmark #6
The Indian Wells Preservation Foundation, in collaboration with the City of Indian Wells and the Casa Dorado Board, will be celebrating the designation of Casa Dorado (CJ Bonner, developer; Richard L. Poper, architect, 1964) as Historic Landmark #6 in December 2023. Further details about the celebration will be available this fall in a future update.
Oral History Project
We are embarking on a noteworthy endeavor, the IW Oral History Project, which received support from the City Council in April and has been generously funded with $25,000. This project will be conducted in coordination with expertise and resources from California State University, Fullerton.
This initiative will begin with an interview of civic leader Richard Oliphant, and subsequent interviews will be conducted with nine other prominent individuals.
The IW Oral History Project aims to capture the memories and experiences of those who have significantly contributed to the development of Indian Wells. It is expected to be completed by October 2024 and will serve as an essential resource for understanding our city's past.
Keeping You Informed
As part of our commitment to keep you informed, we will continue to provide email updates about upcoming events and news on a regular basis.
If you have friends, neighbors, or colleagues who might be interested in joining the Foundation, please share our website link with them, www.IWPF92210.org, and encourage them to join. The more individuals we engage, the greater the impact we can have on preserving our community's history.
We sincerely appreciate your support and enthusiasm for our mission. The Indian Wells Preservation Foundation thrives on the dedication, expertise, talent, and passion of its members. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We value your input and look forward to continuing on this exciting journey together.
